The Photo Editing Basics – Boost IT: 9 Week Course is part of Try IT – Digital Arts St Helens, a Digital Arts Box CIC project, funded by Coalfields Regeneration Trust, which aims to help people address some of the difficulties that we’ve faced over the past couple of years. The Covid pandemic and lockdowns have been difficult for everyone, they have impacted upon everybody’s mental health with many people becoming isolated and lonely.  Signing up to these courses offer the opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills, both of which are a great way to improve your wellbeing.

Who is this course for (eligibility criteria)? 

To take part you:

  • Must be Aged 18+ 
  • Must be from St Helens
  • May be experiencing poor mental health 
  • May be vulnerable and experiencing health inequalities
  • May be lonely or feel socially isolated

What to expect from this course:

Do you live in St Helens and are interested in creative, digital photo editing but don’t know where to start? These sessions are perfect for anyone who has limited experience in editing but is keen to know more.  If you want to get creative, try photo editing and learn new skills in a supportive, social atmosphere then this is the course for you.

Topics You’ll Learn About:

  • Fundamental digital photograph editing processes (cropping, colour levels, layers and more)
  • File formats and sizes
  • Basic digital image manipulation techniques (blending methods, masking tools, filters, and more)
  • Create a digitally edited image each week using a combination of the techniques learned throughout the course
  • Identifying Career Paths in Digital Photo Editing

What are the entry requirements? 

You will need a basic working knowledge of computers; for example, can you download a file from the internet and rename it in your computer? Participants will (with guidance, if needed) set up online accounts (e.g. Google, editing software, Adobe).

We’ll provide all technology and equipment for the sessions, so you just need to turn up. Please feel free to bring a pen and notepad with you to take notes.

Are there any costs involved?

Due to all the places being fully funded by Coalfields Regeneration Trust, the Photo Editing Basics – Boost IT: 9 Week Course is completely free of charge.
