Photo Editing Basics

Who is this course for?

These sessions are perfect for anyone who is interested in creative, digital photo editing but doesn’t know where to start or has limited experience in editing but is keen to know more. Great if you are interested in developing creative skills, developing your skills for future employment or further learning.

Topics Covered:

  • Fundamental digital photograph editing processes (cropping, colour levels, layers and more)
  • File formats and sizes
  • Basic digital image manipulation techniques (blending methods, masking tools, filters, and more)
  • Create a digitally edited image each week using a combination of the techniques learned throughout the course
  • Industry expert guest speaker (Q+A)
  • Identifying Career Paths in Digital Photo Editing

Attendance:

This course consists of 7 weekly sessions; the first is 1 hour long (to allow for both enrolment), and the remaining 6 sessions are 2 hours each.

How will I be assessed?

This is a non-accredited course, however, linked to the Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA) framework you will be expected to build up a portfolio that will be assessed by your tutor against the course criteria.

There will be a variety of activities and it is a great opportunity to meet new people. You will be given supportive feedback from your tutor on a weekly basis to help you develop your skills. 

During these sessions, you will be encouraged to further enhance your skills and knowledge outside of the classroom, by completing the iDEA (inspiring digital enterprise award) award Silver.

What are the entry requirements?

You will be required to complete some written work as part of this course which will require a good basic understanding of English and Maths. You will also need to be able to work on multiple tabs on a computer at once and have a good basic understanding of using different software packages such as Word (Microsoft), Google docs, Pages (Mac OS), internet browsers etc. 

Participants will be required (with guidance, if required) to set up online accounts (e.g. Google, editing software, Adobe).

Who is eligible to apply for a place?

To be eligible to apply for this course you must:

  • Live in Halton Borough – Cheshire
  • Be aged 19+
  • Be unemployed
  • Legally a resident in the UK and able to take up paid employment in an EU member state

Are there any technical requirements?

All technology and equipment will be provided for the sessions by our delivery partners, so you just need to turn up. Please feel free to bring a pen and notepad with you to take notes.

Are there any costs?

All of the sessions are completely free of charge thanks to funding from the European Social Fund. In fact, we will give you a £30 Amazon voucher for successfully completing* the course!

(*successful completion means attending all 6 weeks and completing all work and ILP’s.)

What will this course lead to?

The sessions have been designed to develop your creative and technical photo editing skills so that you may consider a future in the Digital Arts and Technology industry, as you learn about pathways into creative careers. 

The course will also support the development of skills for future employment, or should you wish to look at further education or career opportunities.
