Learn how to bring your drawings to life

We’re back with more free live streams and ticketed private tutorial sessions, to teach you how to make your own animated videos! 

During these online sessions, we will be using the free FlipaClip app to bring your drawing to life. It’s the perfect way to sharpen your creative abilities. 

During the course you will learn:

Private Sessions:

We will be delivering the Private Sessions via Zoom. 

Who?

No previous experience is needed to take part in this workshop, meaning it’s perfect for beginners. We suggest a minimum age of 8 for our activities. If you’re not quite old enough why not see if an adult can stay and help you.

Price?

Live Streamed Sessions:

FREE! That’s right all of the live streamed sessions are free thanks to the support of Arts Council England. If you would like to help support us deliver these sessions we always appreciate donations to our non-profit MakoDigital Arts CIC.

Private Sessions: 

Our Private Sessions are for a small group of up to 15 participants. These closed sessions are delivered using Zoom which allows the participants to speak directly to the tutor during the session. Tickets for these sessions are £10 plus booking fees.

Technical Requirements?

As this is an online session you will require the following:

  • A smartphone or tablet with Flipaclip App installed (Google Play Store or Apple App Store)
  • Another device connected to the internet, to watch the tutor’s video stream. 
  • A stylus is useful but is not essential.

Episode 1 – Introduction: Make it rain (Free Live Stream)

Animating in the rain

For our first episode, we will be showing you the basics of how animation and the FlipaClip app works, from setting up the project to using the drawing tools. We will cover some of the technical aspects too, so you can properly export your animation. 

By the end of the session, you will have your own raindrop animation!

Private Session 1 – Bouncing Ball (Ticketed Video Tutorial) 

Let’s get a ball bouncing

This is the first Private Session in our Drawing Digital Animation project. 

During this session, you will learn how to animate a bouncing ball. We will be looking at how adding stretch and thinking about how objects move can make our animations look more realistic.  We will also look at adding colour and shading to our animation to add depth.

Episode 2 – Stick Figure Animation (Free Live Stream)

Let’s animate some Stick Figures

Now that we’ve covered the basics, we can start to tell a story with our animations! This episode will be focusing on animating stick figures, this is the perfect backbone for any story! We will also be experimenting with importing photos into our animations and drawing over the top of them.

Private Session 2 – Audio & Foley (Ticketed Video Tutorial)

Let’s make our own sound effects

Audio is a big part of an animation, it helps us engage another of audiences senses and adds depth to our animation. During this session, we will show you how to add audio to your animations and how sounds effects and foley can enhance your animations. We will also be looking at more advanced stick figure animation, allowing you to tell your story in greater detail!

Episode 3 – Animate Video (Free Live Stream)

Let’s animate over videos

For our final stream, we are going to look at how we can bring objects to life with animated faces! This episode involves us adding videos into our animations, then blending them with our cartoons, to create an awesome stylised blend of live-action and animation.

Private Session 3 – Rotoscoping (Ticketed Video Tutorial) 

Let’s turn video clips into animations 

To conclude our Private Sessions we are going to make you the animation! To achieve this we will be using a technique called “Rotoscoping”. This is when you trace over frames from a video, to create an amazing unique effect. Turn your video clips into an awesome animated masterpiece!
