Mako, Carers & Short Breaks

We’re happy to announce we’re continuing to work with Halton Borough Council throughout 2020, til 2021 to support families of disabled children who live in Halton via the Short Breaks scheme.

We will be providing a 4 week course dedicated to teaching Computer Game Coding to the young person in your life!ย 
Due to social distancing rules, weโ€™re hosting all our sessions online to keep you safe.ย We proud to have the ability to keep delivering these sessions to young people in Halton. To help enable us to continue running these sessions we have introduced a donation system for tickets. This system allows you to choose the amount you would like to donate with the minimum donation being ยฃ1.

Because the sessions are part of the Short Breaks scheme, they won’t be open to the general public, however if your child has any of the conditions mentioned below.

Who is eligible for a Short Break?ย 

Short breaks are for carers and disabled children who live in Halton. In Halton a disabled child is considered to be; a young person between 0 – 18 years old (however our workshops will be for children ages 8 and up) whose lives are affected by one or more of the following diagnosed conditions:ย ย 

– A Hearing impairment

– A Visual impairment

– A Learning disability

– A Physical disability

ย 

– A Chronic / life threatening physical illness

– A Communication disorder (including Autism)

– A Consciousness disorder (e.g Epilepsy)

– A Mental health condition

The childs condition should usually be expected to last forย more than 12 monthsย and have aย substantial effectย upon the child in more than one of the following areas:ย ย 

– Physical abilityย 

– Communication and understandingย 

– Awareness of risk and dangerย 

– Behaviourย 

– Independenceย 

Each child and family will have different needs and the impact of the child’s disability will be considered against what would usually be expected for any child of the same age. If your child has one or more of the following, it will greatly help your application:ย 

An EHC Planย 

Individual support at school for 15 hours or moreย ย 

What do I need to join?

Due to the sessions being of a digital nature you will need:

– A device connected to the internet, to watch the tutorโ€™s video stream via Zoom

– Anotherย device connected to the internetย (weย recommendย a computer or laptop)ย to create your game onย

This is aย 4 week course

Session 1 –ย Wednesday 24th June 2020ย at 16:30 to 18:00

Session 2 –ย Wednesday 1st July 2020ย at 16:30 to 18:00

Session 3 –ย Wednesday 8th July 2020ย at 16:30 to 18:00

Session 4 –ย Wednesday 15th July 2020ย at 16:30 to 18:00
